Computing Hubs

The National Centre for Computing Education consortium – our aim is for every child in every school in England to have a world-leading computing education.

We are:

  • The local hub representing NCCE (National Centre for Computing Education) which was formed by the collaboration between BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT), Raspberry Pi and Isaac Computing.
  • DfE funded to provide support for Computing education by providing CPD for teachers – both face to face and online.
  • A conduit for information about initiatives & activities that enhance Computing teaching.
  • Working in conjunction with Computing at School communities of practice (these are networks designed to encourage and facilitate the sharing of good practice).

We deliver accredited CPD through trained facilitators on behalf of STEM Learning, who are recognised for their monitoring of impact.

Primary Schools

Currently all face to face primary CPD is bursary funded for the first teacher from a school attending a course within an academic year, at the rate of £220 – £35 (the course fee) per day, on completion of the training.

Secondary Schools

Computer Science Accelerator (CSA) programme – a funded programme designed to upskill teachers currently teaching or interested in delivering computer science.  The courses cover a range of topics, from an introduction to Computer Science GCSE, networks and cyber security, data and computer systems, algorithms and python programming.  This enables teachers with all levels of experience to select the courses that are most relevant to them – thereby creating a bespoke experience.  The face to face CPD is funded at the rate of £220 – £35 (the course fee) per day, on completion of the training. On completion of the CSA programme and passing of a summative test, the school will receive a further £920, £300 of which is for further CPD.
